November 12, 2015 - A Taste of Gulf Gate - Photos by Norm Schimmel
The first Taste of Gulf Gate was a rousing success. And judging from comments overheard at the event, attendees are looking forward to a repeat performance next year.
Twenty-five area restaurants and purveyors donated their house specialties, wine and water to the sumptuous feast held at the Gulf Gate Library on Thursday, November 12. The tables in the meeting room were laden with ribs, rugelach, wings, pizza, goat cheese appetizers, BBQ shrimp, Ahi tuna appetizers, pad Thai, mini veggie burgers and much more. Mini root beer floats were a special treat for those of a certain age, recalling memories of high school. The men were undoubtedly pleased that Hooters provided two servers from its establishment. Several restaurants offered coupons as well as food. Not to be missed were the scrumptious desserts found in the Teen Zone on the second floor of the library. People were seen carrying away platefuls of scones, Baklava, mini cannoli and tarts and then returning for more. The Taste of Gulf Gate committee, members of the Friends and volunteers, along with staff, transformed Gulf Gate Library into a magical food and wine tasting venue. Jane Rosenbohm added ambiance with her delightful musical performance. Tables and chairs throughout the library provided seating where diners could enjoy the delicious offerings with their companions. Nor did the enjoyment end with food and drink. The lucky winner of the silent auction and three friends will soon be playing golf at the prestigious TPC course at Prestancia. The “Mystery Gift Tree” provided those who purchased a chance with prizes ranging from salon services to restaurant gift certificates. Book covers decorated the front of the “tree tags.” This writer selected her favorite book and collected a zipped canvas satchel with a pillow tucked inside, much envied by friends. The Friends association and especially the tireless volunteers are due a round of applause for making the first Taste of Gulf Gate a fun and financially successful event. More than 350 tickets were distributed to this sold-out fundraiser. A list of food and beverage sponsors and gift donors follows. Please be sure to thank them for their support of Gulf Gate Library when you visit their places of business. by Vicki Chatley |
