November 10, 2016 - A Taste of Gulf Gate
TASTE OF GULF GATE REVIEW
by Vicki Chatley
The Gulf Gate Library was turned into a lively bistro for the second Taste of Gulf Gate on November 10, 2016, when food, wine and music reigned supreme.
From the tables in the foyer to the long line for scrumptious desserts in the Teen Center some 350 people enjoyed the party. Oh, yes, the wine sampling also took place in the Teen Center, which made it a very popular place.
Lime Water and its talented musicians, with Beth Bloodsworth as lead singer, provided “90’s music and more” throughout the evening.
The food tables, featuring a mouth-watering display of offerings, were set up in the meeting rooms. The choices ranged from seafood appetizers, shrimp cocktail and sashimi tuna to chicken wings, spinach pie, pizza, lasagna, potato pancakes, and risotto balls with meat sauce and Mozzarella cheese to name only a few. More than one “This is delicious!” or “You have to try this!” comments were overheard. The delicious desserts included chocolate mousse, tiramisu, cannoli, mini eclairs, and cream puffs.
The crowd was dispersed throughout the building, occupying seating areas wherever they were found – even in the story room in the children’s center.
Forty-one Sarasota restaurants donated gift cards that were placed in sealed envelopes. For a small donation, guaranteed to be less than the value of the gift card inside, donors could select a blank envelope. This writer found a $50 certificate to a popular night spot inside hers.
The event was financially successful for the Friends, raising more than $6,000 to support the library. The proceeds from the event will be used to fund Children, Teen, and Adult programs and supplies.
Many thanks are extended to the wonderful restaurateurs who participated in this event. They are named in the following list.
Thanks also go to the equally wonderful volunteers who assisted in making the Taste of Gulf Gate successful.
